The coordinator of the Northeast progressives youth forum, Mohammed Abdullahi has commended the All Progressives Congress, APC for allocating the position of BOT chairman of the party to the zone. He also said that they appreciate the fact that the position of deputy Senate president and some positions of leadership in the House of Representatives to the northeast.
According to Abdullahi Bauchi state deserves the position of deputy Senate president because the APC in the state was able to wrestle power from the hands of PDP despite the presence of political heavy weights of PDP in the state. He said even with the presence of PDP bigwigs like the party chairman Adamu Muazu, the Governor, Isa Yuguda and the minister of the FCT Bala Mohammed, the APC took control of the state.
Abdullahi added that Bauchi used to be the regional capital of the northeast right from the days of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa the first prime minister of Nigeria. He said Bauchi is yet to get its rightful place of leadership since Balewa.
The former Vice President of Nigeria and Turakin Adamawa , Atiku Abubakar is set to be next chairman of the board of trustees of the APC. The APC expect that he will bring his political acumen to bear in steering the party to greater success.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
