Yola NBA flays relocation of election tribunal to Abuja
The Yola branch of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has criticized the relocation of the Adamawa Governorship/National Assembly and House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal to Abuja.
The NBA branch chairman, Mr Abubakar Babakano, who spoke on the development in an interview with Newsmen in Yola said the action was uncalled for.
Babakano said the association was not consulted before the action was taken, adding that the association would complain to the Court of Appeal to rescind the decision.
He observed that there was no security threat in Yola to warrant the relocation pointing out that the association would complain to the Court of Appeal and if need be write the National Judicial Council.
Babakano also urged Adamawa state Government to also join hands in taking up the matter.
On the on-going strike by Judicial Staff Union (JUSUN) in the state, Babakano said that NBA was not happy about the four months old strike and had being trying to bring the parties involved to amicable settlement.
It would be recalled that the Adamawa Governorship/National Assembly and House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal has relocated to Abuja for security reason.
A statement by the Secretary of the Tribunal, Falilat Oluwatoyin, said that the relocation was approved by the President of Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa.
” The Hon. President of Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa, considering the security of the Tribunal has constituted and relocated the Adamawa State Election Petition Tribunal to FCT High Court, Abuja.
“The Hon. Acting Chief Judge of FCT (Hon. Justice I.U Bello) of FCT High Court, has approved the use of FCT High Court as the trial court for the Tribunal while the secretariat is at the same venue”, the statement said.
