World Cup Qualifier: How Saraki, Ogba saved the day

There are indications that the senate president Bukola Saraki and the chairman of the house committee on sports Obinna Ogba saved Nigeria from what would have been an embarrassment before the world cup encounter against the Desert Warriors of Algeria at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

The National team as has become the practice were in dire financial strait a few days to the match and the both the Sports Minister Solomon Dalung and the President of the Nigerian Football Federation(NFF) Amaju Pinnick were helpless which made the NFF reach Obinna Ogba. It took the duo of the Senate President and the Chairman of the House committee on Sports to reach the Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun to have the required funds released.

According to Ogba, “When Amaju Pinnick informed me about the situation I contacted the Minister of Sports but when he was not forthcoming, I had to call the Minister of Finance myself and the Director-General of the Budget Office and before I left Abuja, the NFF had gotten their money and we are happy about the outcome.”
