Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday, honoured the outgoing Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Ambassador Bulus Lolo.
The staff, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Workers’ Union, conferred on the outgoing permanent secretary an award of excellent for his dedication to service during the period he held the position.
Lolo, until his appointment as permanent Secretary, has served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU).
Speaking during the send-forth organised in the ministry in Abuja, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, described him as one of the brilliant civil servants he has come across.
According to the minister, he is brilliant and eloquent.
“He has a very high intellectual qualities,” he added.
Onyeama, however, pledged to engage him in matters that is of interest in the ministry.
“We will be engaging you in so many capacities. I wish you the very best. You are one of the very best that this country has ever produced,” Onyeama remarked.
In his response, the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Amb Lolo, thanked the workers’ union for the honour done on him.
“For me, I cannot ask a better parting gift but the overwhelming gathering of this union in my honour. I thank you all,” he said.
He noted that during his service as permanent secretary of the ministry, he placed premium on discipline and hardwork, adding that the disciple in the ministry was unimaginable.
Also, the workers honoured the Minister, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama , for his commitment to service in the ministry.
“To fear the world US has led for the better part of a century, abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe and refuse the obligations of international leadership… for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solving problems is unpatriotic. “
