The White House has said that the US drones operating in the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan has killed two Americans who were members of Al Qaeda. He also said that the US drones operations also in the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan in January accidentally killed two hostages. The hostages are an American and an Italian.
The American Dr Warren Weinstein, 72, was a development worker who was kidnapped in Lahore, Pakistan and has been held hostage since 2011. The Italian Giovanni Lo Porto, 39, an aid worker kidnapped in Mullan, Pakistan, has been held hostage since 2012.
US President Barack Obama said the US Launched the attack believing that the targets were militants with no civilians, but unfortunately Al- Qaeda were hiding the hostages there. Obama said he took full responsibility for the operations. He said the operation was in accordance with the White House counterterrorism protocols.
According to Obama, ‘there could be no starker contrast between these two selfless men and their Al-Qaeda captives. He said the operation will be reviewed.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
