The operatives of the Lagos State Task Force have arraigned 19 motorists for driving against traffic along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway before Chief Magistrate Amos Olajuwon of the Lagos State Mobile Court at Oshodi.
SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force who led the enforcement operations along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, disclosed that one of the motorists who pleaded guilty to have driven against
on-coming traffic had his vehicle permanently forfeited to Lagos State government.
While expressing surprise that motorists, including private car owners, could still drive against traffic despite repeated warnings, he said the drivers of the 19 impounded vehicles were arraigned for violation of Schedule (1) item 27 of the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012.
The Chairman urged motorists, particularly commercial bus drivers, to desist from driving against traffic and obey all traffic signs, adding that the enforcement exercise would be a continuous one and that any motorist arrested in any part of the State would be charged to court.
Chief Magistrate Amos Olajuwon of the Lagos State Mobile Court who presided over the case ruled that one of the 19 impounded vehicles, a Honda Car belonging to Mr. Felix John with registration No (BDG 465 XL) be forfeited to the government after the accused pleaded guilty to have driven against traffic (one-way) contrary to Schedule (1) item 27 of the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012.
The Chief Magistrate, however, adjourned till 7th of December, 2017 for the commencement of ‘Trial’ of other arrested 18 motorists after they all pleaded ‘Not Guilty’ before the court.
