In reaction to the current crisis facing the PDP as a result of the defeat suffered at the last general elections, the president of the senate David Mark has warned the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to shield their swords; otherwise, the party may be heading for destruction.
The senate president made the remark when members of the PDP post elections assessment committee headed by the deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu paid him a visit.
According to Mark ‘the party is already in a comatose status and we should do all we can to resuscitate the party rather than this unnecessary rancour and bulk passing.
We have gotten enough bruises and we need not inflict further pains on ourselves with continuous bickering.
‘Enough of this blame game. We should return to the drawing board and need not wash our dirty linens in the public anymore.
‘I believe a useful lesson has been learnt from the PDP electoral misfortune. As for me, it is a time to put on our thinking caps and chart a new course.’ He said the new status of the party as an opposition party is a challenge which the PDP members must face with all the honesty, sincerity of purpose and dedication to duty. He said he believes that the Ike Ekweremadu led committee will do a good job.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
