Members of the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the south west met in Ado Ekiti in Ekiti state and resolved to endorse the leadership of Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State and Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state. The meeting also encouraged Fayose and Mimiko to work together .The meeting which was attended by the one of the leaders of the PDP in the southwest Bode George commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his patriotism and the strong love for the country by conceding defeat at the presidential election on March 28, 2015.According to Bode George ‘ people like President Jonathan are very rear to come by. He accepted a flawed election for Nigeria to stand united. Can those who had not been sworn in and have started threatening to impeach a PDP governor do this. PDP lost the elections because of unresolved issues and due to the handiwork of enemies within, coupled with the conspiracy from the INEC chairman Professor Attahiru Jega, who wisely made Nigerians to have the impression that the election was free and fair when it was not.
The meeting also condemned the attempt by the 19 Ekiti APC lawmakers to impeach the governor of Ekiti state Ayo Fayose despite all the entreaties. Ayo Fayose while thanking members for their support, appealed to PDP members who are aggrieved and are trying to defect to other parties to have a rethink. Fayose said ‘ I am a member of the PDP and nobody can harass me because of my political belief. Mimiko on the other hands said the PDP is only on a four years holiday and will recapture power in 2019.
According to Bode George the meeting also called on the NWC to resign and to go back to work for the party. He also said that ‘the APC orchestrated violence, blackmail and political attacks on elected PDP governors and other officials pose a threat to the peace of the region.’
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
