The action which came few days to the epic gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Nigeria, has caused a major stir in the camp of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as most of his political allies ditched him at the 11th hour.
The defectors who make their stand known during a Press Conference Wednesday in Yola said their love for the state led to their action in other to salvage the state from drifting into economic doldrums which they said if they allowed, posterity will judge them negatively.
“After careful identification of the best in the current circumstances facing the state, we came to the conclusion that Bindow’s victory will pave the way for the desired restoration and positive change for the peace and development of the state,” speaker of the group Sen Silas Zwingina said.
He explained that following the undemocratic tendencies of the candidate imposed on Adamawa state, by the PDP the serving senators under the party formed alliance with major stakeholders in the party to rally round the ambition of Senator Muhammad Umar Jibrilla Bindow in other to salvage the state from anti democratic elements
The defectors alongside thousands of their followers said their choice of APC’s candidate was reached after careful scrutiny identify him as the best candidate for the job hence their total support to his ambition.
Notable among the PDP juggernauts in the state who ditched their party in support of the APC are Alhaji Sadiq Mohammad (Walin Ganye), former senate leader, Sen Silas Jonathan Zwingina, Sen. Bello Tukur (Sarkin Yakin Adamawa), Sen. Ahmed Barata, Barr Ali Gulak, Gen Aliyu Kama, Mr Zira Maigadi, Mr Yakubu Tsala, and Dr. Idi Hong
. Zwingina noted that what motivated them to join APC was premised by the desire to address the myriad of challenges being faced in the state which include economic underdevelopment, insecurity, lack of infrastructure and political instability among others.
He further explained that among the gubernatorial candidates fielded by various political parties, it is only Muhammad Umar Jibrilla Bindowo that has the capabilities of meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
In his remarks, the Director General of Bindowo Campaign organization Alhaji Abdurrahman Abba Jimeta commended the defectors for their bold moves adding that Adamawa indigenes will remain grateful to them for their courage to live the sinking PDP ship that wreaked havoc on the state for the past 16 years.
He assured them of equal treatment in the party adding that APC does not believe in a second fiddle role, advising all to work hard for the victory of the party’s candidate as he said the victory is for all and sundry.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
