Restructure PDP before hand over,Ardo urges Jonathan
The former PDP gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa State said that President Goodluck Jonathan as the leader of the party needs to appoint an interim committee to save the party from total doom as result of unqualified people handling its affairs across the nation.
Ardo in a press statement made available to cyboknews.com said that President Jonathan can bring PDP back to its lost glory by appointing distinguished members with high degree of honesty, integrity and justice with good knowledge and understanding of Nigeria’s politics and history to hold the party for at least 3 months within which to conduct free, fair and credible elections that would usher in responsible and credible party leaderships across the country.
Ardo who canvassed for the immediate resignation of the members of the PDP board of Trust and the leadership of the party both at the State and the national level said that for the party to recapture power in future elections this crop of leaders handing its affairs have to go.
Ardo who spoke against the backdrop of the disastrous performance of the PDP in the 2015 general elections both at the national and state levels, said there is need for the members of the party Working Committee to resign their various appointments as the architects of the poor performance of the party.
According to the statement, it is my view that the PDP national leaderships must take full responsibility and consequently resign their offices forthwith, if the party is to re position itself and recapture power in the nearest future.
Although the Buhari candidacy was seemingly unassailable in the circumstances of the 2015 national politics, it is clear to all discerning pundits that the actions, in-actions and choices of the party’s national leaderships were mainly responsible for the creation of these unfavourable political circumstances.
”To this end, therefore, I call upon all members of the NWC and the leadership of the BOT to honourably resign their offices, and let the President as the leader of the party appoint an interim committee of distinguished members with high degree of honesty, integrity and justice with good knowledge and understanding of Nigeria’s politics and history to hold the party for at least 3 months within which to conduct free, fair and credible elections that would usher in responsible and credible party leaderships across the country” he said
He added that Mr president has saved the nation by accepting defeat with equanimity, stressing that it is now for him to save the party by accepting the candid advice he gave to leave behind a solid base of internal democracy in the PDP. This is what the president owes the party and the nation.
The candidate of the People Democratic Party in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Adamawa, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has pledged to contribute to the development of the country despite being in opposition political party.
Ribadu commended all party members for their unflinching support to his gubernatorial ambition on wednesday at a stakeholders meeting.
He said what spurred him to throw his hat into the gubernatorial race was to use his vast experience to develop Adamawa state and ensure unity between the diverse cultural and ethnic groups in the state adding that even in opposition he will work towards the betterment of the state and Nigeria.
We had Adamawa people in mind when we set to contest the gubernatorial seat. Our aim was to entrench peace, development and progress. Now that we are in the opposition, we shall still strive to achieve that,he said.
Ribadu urged his teeming supporters not to lose hope adding that with tenacity of purpose, one day the party will return to power just as he prays for the success of the new elected government of the state. The journey of one million miles starts with one step so let us continue the journey we started and not despair as nothing can be achieved without perseverance,he said.
While appreciating his supporters, Ribadu said I am grateful to you from the bottom of my heart. We must accept our destiny in good faith and we must console each other because we had good intentions to serve this state.
