The director of defence information Major General Chris Olukolade on Wednesday said that the rescued 200 girls and 93 women are already being screened to determine their conditions and where they come from. He said they cannot say for certain if some of the girls are from Chibok until they finish the screening. He also said they rescued girls and women are receiving medical attention. He added that some of the women are elderly and are receiving medical treatment.
Major General Olukolade said that the military has cleared four key areas previously held by the terrorist group Boko Haram in the Sambisa forest. He said the target of the military is to clear the Islamist terror group from their hideouts and enclaves. He added that Sambisa is just one those hideouts. The Nigerian air force has carried out a series of air bombardment in the Sambisa forest which has degraded the powers of Boko Haram.
Olukolade who is looking up beat said that the military has destroyed three camps after they were recaptured from the terrorists. He said that the focus of the military is the safety of civilians in the areas they have recaptured. He added that the terror group have laid land mines in the forest and the military is skilfully taking them out.
On claims that Boko Haram has recaptured some territories, the director of defence information said that the information is not true. He stated that reports of towns recovered by the terror are meant to encourage the terrorists. He said most of the terrorists are searching for food and destroying anything on their way as they escape. He emphasised that the military will not allow the Islamic sect to have a foothold in ant territory anymore.
He said this operation was solely carried out by the Nigerian military. He said the neighbours of the Lake Chad basin will ensure that Boko Haram does not operate in the territory again. They are to secure their side of the territory.
He concluded that the target is to take out, destroy and capture the terrorists.
It should be noted that six weeks to the general elections in Nigeria, the military intensified its military operations in the north east with the cooperation of Cameroon, Chad and Niger helped to reduce the destructive effect of Boko Haram.
The joy of the Nigerian people and the military that are involved in the operations will be full the day the Chibok girls which has become the symbol of the evil devices of the Islamic terror group, Boko Haram which president-elect call fraud will be united with their family.
Meanwhile, the government of Niger said that Boko Haram killed 28 civilians and 46 troops were also killed by the sect while they were able to kill 150 Boko Haram members.
