The national publicity secretary has said that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, will not be distracting the president-elect because they have decided ‘that promoting unity is paramount to us. It is the wish of this party that the president-elect will not be disturbed, we will not do anything that will disturb him and we will not accept harassment of our members.’
Metuh said that the PDP have decided that they will not go to court on the presidential election against the All Progressives Congress, APC, and presidential candidate. According to Metuh ‘Nigeria is on the brink of dictatorship.’ He assured the media ‘that the PDP will be back to power in four years, but feared that the APC is planning to institute a one party state.
He also said the party will not go to court, so as not distract the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, but will help him salvage democracy. He said the PDP will truly offer the APC an alternative programme. He said they hope the APC will appreciate democracy. He added that the nation and its citizens are facing serious threat. He said the nation is on the verge of a quick slide into dictatorship and the personal freedom we all enjoy today may be eliminated.
He said that ‘ the PDP has invited you today to address a matter of serious national importance, a grievous development and worrisome trend which is not only inimical to the stability of our nation but also the collective wellbeing of all citizens.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
