President Goodluck Jonathan has directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs to submit their handover notes by Monday, April 20. He expects to be briefed on all projects in the country.
Speaking to the media after the mid-week executive council meeting on Wednesday the Minister of information, Mrs Patricia Akwashiki said the president has directed ministers to do their hand over notes, and also notes from the departments and agencies to the secretary to the government of the federation. The minister said that the President is committed to a smooth handover to the new administration. She said President Jonathan will want details on all the projects in the country. He expects the hand over notes to include projects that the administration inherited, the projects that the administration initiated stating the level of completion. The minister said President Jonathan said the notes should also include details as to whether the projects are completed, on-going or abandoned.
The minister said that the emphasis of President Jonathan is to ensure smooth transition and a proper hand over well ahead of the May 29 date. She said that the hand over programmes should not disturb the activities of government. She also said that the May 29 will involve a dinner and since this is a special democracy day because of the new administration ,it will be elaborate. President Jonathan presided over the executive council meeting of the government.
According to Akwashiki , ‘we discussed other issues , but particularly paid attention to the transition and how to make it effective. As you are all aware, we have transitional committee already set up by the president , headed by the vice president , Namadi Sambo, Other than that , we have an inaugural committee headed by the SGF.
‘By May 28 the president intend to have a formal handover done at a dinner so we can reserve May 29 for the incoming government. By May 28, we expect to have concluded governance and we are welcoming incoming government.’
‘Also you know May 29 is our democracy day. So we have activities lined up all through that week, show casing all we have achieved and all other things we do normally on our democracy day. Except that this year is special with the inauguration of our new president that is coming up.’
‘ There is no space or vacuum. There are things happening and if you have any pending contract approval, it has to be submitted before May 13. Everything that requires the president’s approval should be submitted before May 13. We also do not want the incoming administration to accuse us of rushing projects which is normal, so we are guided by that. She said ‘ the last Federal Executive Council meeting will be the valedictory one will be on May 20. We are still working and in the event you have approval , it must be concluded before May13.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
