President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the first family attended a valedictory service on Sunday in his honour at the Aso villa chapel. The church service which was organised by the Aso villa chapel as a farewell service for the president and his family. The service is said to be a special thanksgiving and commendation service and it will be the last for President Jonathan and the first family in Aso villa. The service was attended by serving and past ministers in the country.
The chaplain of the Aso villa chapel , Ven Obioma Onwuzurumba in his message titled ‘To God be the glory’ he admonished the congregation on the virtues of a goodness. He also expressed gratitude to God for sparing the lives of the President and his family throughout their stay in the Presidency.
The members of the Aso villa chapel and the children church of the chapel presented gifts each to President Jonathan, his wife Patience and the President’s mother Eunice.
The President and the first family danced to the altar in gratitude to God. The president in his speech appreciated the staff of the presidency and those who served the country faithfully with him. He also expressed gratitude to God for seeing him throughout the period he has been in the saddle as president of Nigeria. He said God has been faithful to him. President Jonathan said in the course of carrying his duties he must have offended some people, he said those where the hazards of the job.He said ‘ we plead that such people should forgive us,i think we have done our best. You may do your own best and your friends and associates may misunderstand you.
The first lady Patience Jonathan also was grateful to God. She said she appreciates God for saving her from the debilitating illness that nearly took her life but for God. She expressed gratitude to God for protecting her and the family throughout the tenure of her husband. She said she had four operations in two years and survived. he thanked Nigerian women for their support from when the husband was vice president to president she received support from Nigerian women. She said she will talk with the incoming first lady Aisha Buhari to carry the Nigeria women along.She said ‘I thank God for keeping me alive today. God is so wonderful. Just two years agi , I went through operations upon operations. Within one month, I passed through 12 operations. Some people said I was dead ,yes I was dead but God resurrected me. God told me, my daughter go back. I will give you a second chance,go and finish your work
It is expected that there are a few more thanksgiving services to be held at various locations before the president leaves office. The interdenominational service that will be held on May 29 at the national Christian centre to commemorate democracy day is sure going to be the last he will attend as president of the federal republic of Nigeria.
