As the remains of late Channels Television Correspondent for the State House, Chukwuma Onuekwusi, was laid to rest on Friday, July 14, President Muhammadu Buhari and the entire staff of the Presidential Villa have joined other Nigerians to mourn the departed broadcaster.
The Permanent Secretary State House, Jalal Arabi, in a letter addressed to Mr. Chidiebere Onuekwusi of Akabo in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, said for the ten years that Chukwuma served as a correspondent for the tv station, he exhibited uncommon dedication, professionalism, and patriotism to work.
The letter reads: I write on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari and the entire staff of the State House, to condole you and members of Onuekwusi family on the transition of your father, Mr. Chukwuma Onuekwusi.
“It is on record that for the ten years that Chukwuma served as a Correspondent for Channels Television reporting Nigerian Presidents, he exhibited uncommon dedication, professionalism, and patriotism at work, and was not found wanting in any respect.
“His passage has therefore left a huge vacuum which will be difficult to fill as covering the State House requires maturity, integrity, and hard work.
“While the Presidency joins you in mourning him, I enjoin you to take solace in the fact that Chukwuma was a respected journalist and pride to the family, employers, the journalism profession and the nation.
“I pray that Almighty God will console his family, friends and professional colleagues and grant Chukwuma’s soul peaceful rest.”
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
