The tenth person on the death row is Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso from the Philippines who is transferred to the prison in the island of Nusakambangan on Friday. The Nigerians are Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise and Raheem Agbaje Salami, the Ghanaian is Martin Anderson, the French is Serge Atlaoui, the Brazilian is Rodrigo Gularte, the Australians are Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaram and Filipino Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso.
BBC reported that an unnamed diplomat has confirmed that they will be visiting the island on Saturday. This is an indication that the Indonesian government have rejected all pleas from nations around the world to spare the lives of the drug convicts. According to the diplomat, ‘we still don’t know when the actual date of the execution will happen but we expect that it will be in days.’
The spokesman for the Indonesian Attorney General’s office said the prosecutors had been told to prepare for their execution. The lawyer to the two Australians who had earlier been sentenced has expressed worry that the legal processes have not been exhausted. The plea from the Australian government for the two Australians had been rejected by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo who said that drugs are killing the country.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
