The independent national electoral commissioner, INEC, has said it will not redeploy its REC in Rivers state as requested by the APC. It however, said that in order to ensure smooth, credible, free and fair elections, it has deployed three national commissioners to supervise the elections in the state.
According to the chief press secretary to the chairman of INEC, Kayode Idowu, ‘as we speak, we have successfully distributed all the needed sensitive and non-sensitive materials to all the local government headquarters from where they would be moved to their final destinations. We started the movements of the material from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, offices since Tuesday. This is coming 24 hours earlier than we did in the past. We are doing this to ensure that all the materials are on ground for the election processes to take off by 8.00am prompt.
He also said that three national electoral commissioners will be deployed to the state to supervise the election to ensure free, fair and credible election. He added that some REC may be redeployed.
He further said that the PVC will be used on Saturday as all the errors from the last presidential and national assembly elections have been corrected. He advised voters to ignore calls for voters to use their temporary voter’s cards, TVC, warning that such voters will not be able to vote.
“IPOB is being sponsored by those I will call the Coalition of the politically disgruntled and the treasury looters. They believe that by sponsoring this group to destabilize the country and trigger chaos, they will realize their ambition of escaping justice and then be free to dip their hands into the nation’s treasury again.”
