INEC declares results of 8 states and the FCT

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega at the General Election Situation Room/National Collation centre Abuja, presented the results of the presidential election in eight states and the federal capital territory this afternoon.  The programme started about 2.00pm with the chairman stating the steps required before the results are finally presented by the states collation officers to the national collation officer/chief returning officer who is also the chairman of INEC. He said the state collation officers will present their results on the basis of first come first served. The following professors were the collation officers of the following states that have presented their results.

  • Ekiti state: Professor Adebiyi Daramola, VC, Federal University of Technology, Akure. PDP
  • Ogun state: Professor Duro Oni, Deputy VC, Management services, Unilag. APC
  • Enugu state: Professor Hilary Edooka, VC, Michael Opara University of Agriculture, Umudike. PDP
  • Kogi state: Professor Adikwu, University of Abuja, APC
  • Osun state: Professor Isaac Asuzu, VC, Federal University Oye, Ado Ekiti, APC
  • Ondo state: Professor Olusola Oyewole, VC, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. APC
  • FCT: Professor Michael Fakorede, secretary General for the committee of VC. PDP
  • Oyo state: Professor Ayobami Folami, Deputy VC, Academics, Obafemi Awolowo University, IFE. APC
  • Nasarawa state: professor Rafindadi, VC, Federal University, Lokoja. PDP

Professor Jega said the results of 18 states were on their way and that the announcement of the results will continue by 8 pm. The meeting went on recess by 4.20pm. The following is the detailed results of the eight states and the FCT. Only the three leading parties will be listed.

Ekiti state:

  • Local governments: 16
  • Political parties: 14
  • Total registered voters: 723,255
  • Total accredited voters: 323,739
  • Total valid votes : 300,691
  • Total rejected: 8754
  • Total vote cast: 309,445

Results: PDP – 176,466

APC – 120,331

AD – 854

Winner:  PDP

Number of cancelled votes: 9039 cancellation due to disruption and over voting.

 

Ogun State:

  • Local governments: 20
  • Political parties : 14
  • Total registered voters: 1,709,409
  • Total accredited voters : 594975
  • Total valid votes: 533,172
  • Total rejected votes : 26,441
  • Total votes cast : 559,613

Winner: APC

The collation officer said the exercise was concluded by 10pm. He mentioned that cancellation of some votes was due to vote snatching of ballot boxes.

 

Enugu State:

  • Local governments : 17
  • Political parties :14
  • Total registered voters: 1,381,563
  • Total accredited votes :616,112
  • Total valid votes : 573,173
  • Total rejected votes ; 12,459
  • Total votes cast : 585,632

Winner: PDP

He said there was no cancellation. He said the invalid votes were as a result of people voting for parties that had no presidential candidates, such as APGA and the Labour party.

  • Total accredited voters : 476,839
  • Total valid votes : 421,328
  • Total rejected votes :17,959

The collation officer was asked by the chairman to state what led to disruption in the two polling units he reported in the official form.

 

 

Osun state:

  • Total rejected votes : 20,758
  • Total votes cast ; 663,373

The total number of cancelled votes in the state was 4707 and the cancellation was due to disruption of the electoral process and over voting.

 

 

Ondo state:

  • Total accredited voters ; 618,040
  • Total valid votes : 561,056
  • Total rejected votes : 21,379
  • Total votes cast : 582,435

Total number of cancelled votes stands at 10,118 votes. He also said in Ilaje there was an incident of result snatching which was recovered by the security operatives.

He said the cancellation of some votes was due to over voting and the mutilation of the ballot papers.

Winner: PDP

The number of cancelled votes was 79,386 and this was due to destruction of voting material and the snatching of sensitive material, including card readers.
