The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega at the General Election Situation Room/National Collation centre Abuja, presented the results of the presidential election in eight states and the federal capital territory this afternoon. The programme started about 2.00pm with the chairman stating the steps required before the results are finally presented by the states collation officers to the national collation officer/chief returning officer who is also the chairman of INEC. He said the state collation officers will present their results on the basis of first come first served. The following professors were the collation officers of the following states that have presented their results.
Professor Jega said the results of 18 states were on their way and that the announcement of the results will continue by 8 pm. The meeting went on recess by 4.20pm. The following is the detailed results of the eight states and the FCT. Only the three leading parties will be listed.
Results: PDP – 176,466
APC – 120,331
AD – 854
Number of cancelled votes: 9039 cancellation due to disruption and over voting.
Results: APC -308,290
The collation officer said the exercise was concluded by 10pm. He mentioned that cancellation of some votes was due to vote snatching of ballot boxes.
Results: PDP -553,003
He said there was no cancellation. He said the invalid votes were as a result of people voting for parties that had no presidential candidates, such as APGA and the Labour party.
Total votes cast: 439,287

The collation officer was asked by the chairman to state what led to disruption in the two polling units he reported in the official form.

The total number of cancelled votes in the state was 4707 and the cancellation was due to disruption of the electoral process and over voting.

Total number of cancelled votes stands at 10,118 votes. He also said in Ilaje there was an incident of result snatching which was recovered by the security operatives.

He said the cancellation of some votes was due to over voting and the mutilation of the ballot papers.

Some votes were cancelled due to over voting.

The number of cancelled votes was 79,386 and this was due to destruction of voting material and the snatching of sensitive material, including card readers.
