I won't resign,- Jega

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega on Monday said he will not resign from office despite calls from certain quarters that he should or get fired.
Jega who spoke in Abuja at a Town-hall Meeting said “I am not under pressure to resign. It would be unfair for me to say that I will resign when I have a job to do. I remain focused.”
 
The professor of Political Science also said there was no truth in claims that he is being forced to proceed on a terminal leave, saying, “Terminal Leave is an option, a grace period given to anyone to go on leave before he finally leaves office. As I have said, earlier, I have a job to do till April 11. Terminal leave is not an option. Nobody has asked me to proceed on terminal leave other than what I read in the newspapers.”
At the event  organized by Reinvent Media in with conjunction Ford Foundation and Kukah Centre; Jega said “I want to assure Nigerians that a lot of things being said are diversionary.”
He added that “We are ready for peaceful, credible and transparent elections to be put to use with the help of the six weeks rescheduling. We are adequately prepared to provide a free and fair elections that is better than the 2011 election.”
The INEC chairman  expressed satisfaction in the distribution of the PVCs, which he  said is about  over 81 percent of the cards have been distributed, stressing and that during the Ekiti state governorship election, collection of the PVcs was at about 65 percent, noting that  in other governorship elections conducted by the commission not more than 30 percent of the eligible voters voted in the election.
He said the remaining over 700,000 PVCs yet to be distributed would be made available to their respective states latest by Wednesday.
