The Federal Government on Monday announced that it has set up a transition committee in preparation to hand over to the new All Progresives Congress ,APC government that will be coming in on May 29,2015. It will be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan had a private meeting with the President-elect Muhammadu Buhari which observers say was to agree on who the transition would be handled.
The secretary to the government of the federation Anyim Pius Anyim said the transition committee will be chaired by the Vice President Namadi Sambo. He also announced other committee members to include the Attorney General of the Federation,Mohammed Adoke, the Police Affairs Minister Abduljelili Adesiyan, Transport Minister Mohammed Umar and Paul Orhii the director general of NAFDAC.
According to the secretary of the government of the federation said that the committee is to ensure that the transition is seamless. He said the federal government has attached so much seriousness to the transition that is why the vice president will chair the committee. He pledged the government commitment to a peaceful and smooth hand over.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
