The speaker of the Enugu house of Assembly, Eugene Odo has been impeached. A group of sixteen lawmakers including the embattled speaker met about 5am on Monday morning to initiate an impeachment proceeding against governor Chime on allegation of misconduct. Later in the day, another group of eight lawmakers led by the deputy speaker Chime Orji also met to impeach the speaker of the house, Eugene Odo.
The two factions later met in two different locations. The police arrived at the house of Assembly in seven patrol vans to restore normalcy to the situation.
Meanwhile the Chime Orji led members of the state house of Assembly has named Chinedu Nwamba as the new speaker. The impeached speaker Eugene Odo has described the action of the eight law makers as ‘outright show of impunity. ‘He said that the impeachment is against the constitution.
“IPOB is being sponsored by those I will call the Coalition of the politically disgruntled and the treasury looters. They believe that by sponsoring this group to destabilize the country and trigger chaos, they will realize their ambition of escaping justice and then be free to dip their hands into the nation’s treasury again.”
