Barely 72 hours before the Saturday Gubernatorial election in Ekiti State and following from the All Progressives Congress(APC) mega rally held on Tuesday, there are indications that the governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose may have been teargassed by the Nigeria Police as he attempted to leave the government house in Ado Ekiti. The vehicles of the Nigeria Police were used to form a barricade to the entrance of the government house.
Pictures show Fayose being resuscitated by his aides after the attack. Reports indicate that he is responding well to treatment and has recovered from the effect of the attack. Also, a video showing sporadic shooting by the Police has gone viral.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police(DIG) operations, Habilal Joshak however, said that the police is not in the state to usurp the authority of the governor.
According to Joshak,”We are not here to usurp the authority of Governor Fayose. We are not here to rubbish him because he represents the people.
He also said “But we are not going to allow any unauthorised rally that can trigger violence in the state. You can see that the state is tensed up.
He added that”As a law enforcement agent, we must be proactive and take actions that can prevent crisis rather than trying to quell it after it might have broken out.”
