The chief judge of Delta state Justice Z. A. Smith has retired. A new acting chief judge was on Monday sworn in bythe Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta state. The new acting chief Judge is Justice Marshal Mukoro.
The governor of Delta state Emmanuel Uduaghan urged the judges to make integrity their watchword. According to Uduaghan, ‘Let me appeal to all judges, indeed all public officers to always demonstrate commitment, loyalty, integrity and support in the discharge of their responsibilities. It is mainly in this way, that we can leave a legacy of selfless service on the sands of time.’
He also said the selection of the ‘acting chief judge followed due consideration was given to seniority, experience and proven record of performance.’
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
