The world Football governing body FIFA has confirmed the decision to hold the usual summer games during the winter. It will hold on December 18, 2022.
FIFA director of communications Walter de Gregorio has said that the competition will start in November and will end on December 18. As a result of the shift, FIFA has advised CAF to shift it’s Nations Cup competitions from January 2023 to June 2023.
According to Gregorio , FIFA has agreed to November to December 18 for the games. He said December 18 is a Sunday and the National day of Qatar. The summer weather condition in Qatar which could exceed 40 oc is said not to be healthy for the players and has been the subject of controversies since won the bid to host. There have been allegations of bribery after Qatar won the bid. This new date will allow England to hold their boxing day matches ,December 26, which they cherish.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
