Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has described the late Chief Imam of the Abuja National Mosque, Ustaz Musa Mohammed, as a great scholar who worked “tirelessly and admirably” for the unity of Nigeria throughout his public life.
In a tribute to the late Chief Imam, the former vice president said throughout his sermons, the late Ustaz Musa Mohammed devoted his messages to the promotion of peace, harmony and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians of all faith and ethnicity.
According to Atiku in a statement made available, on Monday, the passion with which the late Ustaz Musa devoted his energy to the promotion of peace “was remarkably worthy of note and respect.”
The former vice president explained that the late Chief Imam of the National Mosque “was a true face of Islam and its personification of peace.”
The Turaki Adamawa urged Ustaz Musa’s successor to sustain his passion for inter-faith dialogue to enhance understanding, tolerance and harmony among Nigeria’s diverse religious groups.
He prayed to God to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and reward his good deeds with paradise, while condoling his family over the irreparable loss of a great scholar.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’
‘The biggest challenge seems to be that we seem to be allowing moderate voices on this issue to be drowned out by the reckless utterances of a few rabble rousers on all sides who may be tools in the hands of those who do not wish this country well. These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
