Lawal made the call in a statement made available to newsmen in Yola.
Lawal observed that such gesture became necessary in recognition of the zone’s contribution to APC victory in the Presidential and National Assembly elections in spite of the security challenges in the zone.
” I want to seize this opportunity to call on APC National leadership to cede either the Senate Presidency or Speakership of the House of Representatives to the region where we have an abundance of talents and qualified candidates for these positions.
” This will set the region on a course of accelerated development that it so desperately needs,” Lawal said.
While commending the President and Vice President elect for their victory at the polls, Lawal lauded the commitment of voters in the sub region for their support to APC and urged for similar support in Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
” For us to reap the full benefits of an APC government at the centre, we must also have APC government in the six states of the zone.
” This will facilitate coordination and infrastructure projects that will have to be embarked upon by both tiers of governments.
” An opposition government in any of the states will destroy this synergy and put any prospect of our rehabilitation, reconstruction and reconciliation in jeopardy.” Lawal said.
“To fear the world US has led for the better part of a century, abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe and refuse the obligations of international leadership… for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solving problems is unpatriotic. “
