Adamawa guber polls; Politicians react to imposition of curfew

Controversy has trailed the  dusk to dawn curfew imposed on Adamawa State by the State commissioner of the police Mr. Gabriel Adaji as the Director General of Senator Bindow gubernatorial campaign organisation of All Progressive Congress has alleged that there is a conspiracy  to rig Saturday’s gubernatorial poll in favour Malam Nuhu Ribadu of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) by the police command
Abba said that there is  speculation making  the rounds  that the security agents had an arrangement with the PDP to rig the poll stressing the action of the commissioner of police in the state has proved the allegation to be right.

But few hours to Saturday Governorship and State Assemblies elections, Police in Adamawa state had declared a dusk to dawn curfew across the state, with effect from Sunday and will last till  Tuesday, with opposition parties threatened to defy the order. The state commissioner of police Gabriel Adaji on Friday said the decision was taken during a crucial inter agencies security meeting  aimed to curtail the breakdown of law and order.

He said the measure was taken, to avert some nasty experiences encountered when the Presidential elections result was announced where miscreants hijacked the celebrations, he said.

He vowed that, the police will enforce the dusk to dawn curfew and anyone found wanting will be dealt with.

The commissioner explained that as it was observed during the presidential polls, movements of vehicles are restricted from 6am to 6pm on Saturday, as there is a total ban on the use of  tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep from Saturday  to Tuesday.
Also reacting is  the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Movement(PDM) Dr Ahmad Modibbo and party members  who vowed to resist the imposition of the curfew.

Speaking through his Director General Campaign,Barr. Sunday Joshua Wigra  said,  as far  as we are concerned the move by the police is in  vain and will be resisted , he said.

He continued that, it seems police wants to cause problem, because nothing happened during the recent elections, why now!? he asked.

The Secretary of the PDP in the state Barrister A. T. Shehu denied any plan by his party to rig the polls.

He frown at the imposition of the curfew by the police.

According to him there is no just reason why police should impose curfew on the people of the state calling on the commissioner  of  police to rescind his statement for peace to reign in the state after the polls.

” The police should banned celebration activities after the poll not to impose curfew” he said

In another development APC has raised alarm that it has uncovered a plot by the PDP to make sure that election do not hold in  eight local government areas of the state


The publicity coordinator of Bindow campaign organisation Alh Uba Dan Arewa made the allegation on Friday.

According to him ” there are plot by the PDP in collaboration with INEC to make sure that over 100, 000 votes in APC strong hold does not count”
