The House siting at the Assembly complex held around 2 pm presided by the Speaker, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, they 10 members that attended the sitting simply adopted the votes and proceedings of the last sitting before adjourning the sitting to Wednesday.
However, the second group made up of nine lawmakers who observed their sitting at Government House Conference hall around 3 pm started by appointing Mrs Wale Fwa (PDP-Demsa) as Speaker Pro-Temprore.
Fwa then presided over the sitting where they members initiated and impeached the Speaker, Ahmadu Fintiri and his Deputy, Mr Laori Kwamoti.
At the session, Salihu Kabilo (PDP-Verre) then nominated Jerry Kundisi (PDP-Gombi) as new Speaker and was seconded by Abuzarri Ribadu (PDP-Yola South) while Umar Abdulkarim (PDM-Nasarawo/Binyeri) emerged as Deputy Speaker.
Addressing the members after taking oath of office, Mr Jerry Kundisi who emerged as the ” new Speaker” thanked his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to disappoint them.
Kundisi said they had to sit at Government House following what he claimed to be continuous closure of the house by Fintiri, adding that they had to look for alternative venue.
Kundisi said his leadership unlike Fintiri would ensure smooth and cordial relationship with the executive.
Kundisi adjourned the sitting to Wednesday after a motion to that effect was moved by Abuzarri Ribadu (PDP-Yola South) which was seconded by Simon Isa (PDM-Song).
Reacting to the development, Fintiri said he was still the Speaker, adding that what the members who claimed to impeached him did was against the rules and procedure of the House and thereby stand null and void.
“To fear the world US has led for the better part of a century, abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe and refuse the obligations of international leadership… for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solving problems is unpatriotic. “
