The Nigerian Governors forum have asked the Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister for the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to account for $20bn excess crude account from 2013 to 2015. Speaking after the meeting of the Nigerian Governors forum in Abuja, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state who chaired crisis ridden Governors forum and later became a factional chairman said the governors have asked the finance minister to account for the $20bn that was accrued to the excess crude account between 2013 and 2015. For the first time in the last two years the Governors are speaking with one voice. Their differences have been resolved. The meeting was held the Lagos/Osun hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja.
Governor Amaechi also said that the National Governors Forum have appointed Governor Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara state as the new chairman of the National Governors Forum. He replaces Governor Rotimi Amaechi who has been the factional leader of the Governors Forum in the last two years. He was a consensus candidate as he was deputy to Amaechi in the Governors Forum. It seem the 36 state Governors have decided to put aside their differences as Governor Babangida Aliyu had predicted when addressing the media at the Northern Governors forum. He said they will be going to the National Governors Forum to resolve the differences that may exist among the Governors. Governor Abdul-Aziz Yari according to Governor Amaechi will serve for one year.
Governor Rotimi Amaechi also said that the National Governors Forum also congratulated the President-elect Muhammadu Buhari on his election victory at the March 28, Presidential election. He added that the forum also appreciated President Goodluck Jonathan for his show of statesmanship by conceding defeat even before the final results were announced.
Meanwhile, Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger state who was also relinquishing his position as chairman of C He said the Governor will serve for two years. He said the new leadership will be inaugurated in June or July where all former Governors of Northern extraction are expected to attend. Governor Aliyu had said they were determined to mediate and unite Governors across party lines for the development of the nation. He said they also agreed to address the problem of Boko Haram and the issue of poverty, unemployment and marginalisation in the North.
Governor Shettima appreciated his colleagues for making him the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum. He said that he is not the chairman of the APC Governor but all Governors of the North. He said will unite with his colleagues to tackle the problem of Boko Haram and the challenges of underdevelopment in the North.
‘It is disingenuous to accuse everyone who calls for restructuring as trying to break up the county. History tells us that that kind of cheap blackmail will not work as long as the underlying reasons for the agitations persist.’

These are some of the people who arrogate to themselves the toga of spokespersons of our diverse groups.’
