One after another, the classic cars filed in front of the reviewing stands onto the red carpet: a sinewy 1936 Lancia, the first car designed by Italian design master Pininfarina, the first named Jaguar, circa 1938 in deep blue with voluptuous lines, matching pink and red 1957 Thunderbirds, the property of two friends who drive them to lunch together, a parade of mint condition 50’s Corvettes, 60’s Thunderbirds, pre War World I Rolls Royces, over 70 cars in all. This was one of the high points of the recent Vintage Weekend held November 29-December 2, the 18th annual gathering of such elite vintage cars along with vintage aircraft and yachts at Key Largo’s Ocean Reef Club.
The weekend, as acknowledged by car parade commentator Ron Elenbaas, also a collector with several cars in the show, is one of a circuit of other car shows such as Pebble Beach’s and Amelia Island’s Concours d’Elegance.
