The director, Army public relations Col S K Usman said that there are at least 579 officers and soldiers facing trials at the military tribunals in Abuja and Lagos.
According to him, 66 soldiers have been convicted and sentenced to death for mutiny when they threatened the life of the former GOC 7 division in August 2014.
He said a special 481 elite force made up of Army, Air force, Navy and Police have been trained and deployed to fight Boko Haram. He said ‘the recent achievements recorded in the North East can be attributed to the exploits of this elite force. One additional battalion, 151 battalion had also completed its training and inducted into the theatre. Two battalion 152 and 153 battalions are currently undergoing training and will be inducted on completion.
He said that some of the troops are undergoing training on Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs) in the UK and USA. He urges Nigerians to support the military with valuable information in the fight against the terrorists.
“To fear the world US has led for the better part of a century, abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe and refuse the obligations of international leadership… for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solving problems is unpatriotic. “
