The Ogun Police Command said it has rescued four other victims abducted on Thursday around J3 forest on Ogbere road, in Ijebu-East Local Government Area of the state.
One of the victims, Mrs. Ibelegbo Chidinma, was rescued earlier on Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed the rescue effort in a terse statement.
At least one of the five rescued persons is believed to be a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who was abducted on the way to the Church’s annual Convention on Thursday.
Oyeyemi said, “The remaining four victims have been rescued unhurt by men of Ogun State Police Command.”
Oyeyemi had earlier said, “Efforts are on top gear to rescue the remaining victims, as the kidnappers who kept them in separate locations were changing their locations from time to time within the forest.”
The RCCG General Overseer Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Friday called for prayers following the incident.
The pastor was traveling from the Eastern part of the country on Thursday to attend a ministers’ conference held at the RCCG Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, preparatory to the church’s Annual Holy Ghost Convention which starts on Monday.
The kidnappers ambushed the vehicle the pastor and others were traveling in along Ogbere in the Ijebu-East Local Government Area of Ogun State and whisked them away into the bush.
Speaking on the abduction at the conference on Friday, Adeboye called for prayers for the kidnapped victims to regain their freedom.
He asked the National Prayer Coordinator of the church, Pastor Peter Olawale, to lead the congregation in prayers for God to rescue them from the kidnappers’ den.
Olawale, who is also the Special Assistant to the GO on Prayers, thereafter led the worshippers in fervent prayers.
All the victims were rescued unhurt on Saturday (today), the Ogun Police Command said.
