No alternative to diversification of economy- Amosun

<![CDATA[Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, said that there was no alternative to diversification of the economy if the nation would make progress and record meaningful development.

According to him, everybody believed that there was no alternative except for diversification, stressing that even before the dwindling revenue from oil, the issue of diversification has been considered as the way to increase revenue.

He explained that Ogun State identified that the three key areas to focus on would include agriculture, environment and transportation.

“We realise that the only way to go is to diversify into agriculture, it will employ our people,it will create wealth for them”

“Those nation that have got it right, if you see them, you will discover that they have their cottage industries, they are the enablers, that’s why we believe that once we zero in on these three key areas of course we will get it right”, Amosun stated.

He said with the Investment Forum recently held in the state, Ogun State would be the industrial hub of the country in the next two years.

“There is no state that have the kind of resources we have, in terms of numbers and value. We are not limiting it at that, we want to take it forward”, he said.

In the area of transportation, Amosun said the state need to introduce rails, waterways to convey people and goods to their destinations

Speaking in the need to ensure better environment, Amosun said, environment is living now, if we want to live well, we must be conscious of our environment, particularly the climate change, we must reduce carbon dioxide”

On revenue generation in the state, the governor said said Ogun state was leading in the area of revenue generation, stressing that the revenue had doubled by 97.8 per cent.

“I am happy to report that in Nigeria today, maybe not in the quantum of what we generate but we are number one. If you check the indices that have been released, we doubled our revenue with about 97.8 per cent, the next state to us I think was 41 per cent we are working hard and we are doing well but they is still lot more to be done”, he said.]]>
